About
Greetings! I’m Evan. I grew up in Catonsville, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore. In the summer of 2010 I moved to Philadelphia, where I’m currently pursuing a degree in English at Temple University. I love my new city and will be here until at least 2013.
I’m a member of Babel, Temple’s performance poetry collective. I hold a day job catering for an Italian restaurant. I like seeing live music, and I favor musicians who put a lot of thought into their lyrics and creativity into their musical approach. I enjoy hiking, camping, long walks on the beach (seriously), and any chance to spend time in nature.
I self-published my first novel, Mutt, in December of 2011. I am presently working on the sequel to Mutt, as well as a poetry chapbook tentatively titled We Are The Body. In the meantime, I’m trying to teach myself how to self-promote my first book. If you’d like to get in touch with me with questions, a review/interview request, or just to say hello, visit my “Contact” page for my info!
I support Occupy Philadelphia and stand in solidarity with worldwide nonviolent movements for social and economic justice.
Don’t reveal Emery’s story so quickly. Save it for the next book, or the one after. And make it longer. Elaborate. I don’t know if you plan on doing this already, but I don’t think you should reveal what happens to him in Mutt. Leave your readers hanging.

Mutt is the first of what’s hopefully going to be a five-part series; I’ve begun writing the second already, though it’s taken some juggling to find time to work on it while publishing the first one. When the next book returns to Emery, it will find how his relationships and mission have been affected by the events at the close of the first book. It will also delve deeper into his backstory mentioned in Mutt; is that backstory what you mean I should save for a future book?
The third draft is 60,000 words, about 8% longer than the second draft, and it fleshes out a few of the other characters as well as developing Emery’s interactions with them. This is the version that, with a final proofread and some minor edits, will be going to press at the end of November. There are a lot of world details that were also added to the third draft to make it feel more substantial, but in terms of further elaboration, I want to keep this book relatively brief to serve as an introduction to the characters and world. I’ll have space in the following books, which will hopefully release on an annual schedule, to dig deeper into these people and their setting.

I am proud of you for your written work, music, drawings and Occupy. Your generation will bring us to a better space. Mine Marched on Washington, against Vietnam conflict and supported Civil Rights after watching police slaughter humans on the TV in our living rooms while we ate dinner.
You and Alice will bring change through multimedia.
Thank You, cause I need a rest.
